International Scientific Conference “Legal History versus Source Studies: Texts, Practices, Interpretations,” dedicated to the memory of Vytautas Raudeliūnas (1930–2002)
We cordially invite you to the international scientific conference “Legal History versus Source Studies: Texts, Practices, Interpretations,” which will take place on 18–19 June 2026 at the Lithuanian State Historical Archives (Mindaugo St. 8, Vilnius, Exhibition and Education Hall, 4th floor).
This two-day academic event will bring together researchers from Lithuania and abroad for discussions on the legal history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and source studies, with particular emphasis on methodological challenges, historiographical approaches, and interpretative frameworks. The conference aims to foster interdisciplinary academic dialogue and to present the latest research directions in these fields.
The conference is dedicated to the memory of Vytautas Raudeliūnas (1930–2002)—a distinguished historian of law and source studies, researcher of the Lithuanian Statutes, bibliophile, lawyer, deportee, and public figure.
Papers will be presented in Lithuanian, Polish, and English. The conference is open to the public; all those interested in Lithuanian history, legal history, archival studies, and documentary heritage are warmly encouraged to attend.
The programme will include presentations addressing various aspects of legal history and source studies of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, reflecting thematic and methodological diversity (conference programme).
The conference is organized by the Lithuanian State Historical Archives, the Office of the Chief Archivist of Lithuania, the Central Archives of Historical Records in Warsaw, Vilnius University, and the Faculty of History of Vilnius University, in cooperation with the Lithuanian Institute of History.
It is expected that the conference will contribute to the advancement of international academic exchange and foster new insights in the fields of legal history and source studies.
A video recording of the conference will be published after the event on the Archives’ YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/@istorijos_archyvas) and will remain accessible to all who wish to engage with the presentations and discussions.
